Cloud Platform Engineer (GCP)

Teachiq / Exam.net (Göteborg)

About Teachiq

Teachiq is a growing SaaS company with a clear mission: to help teachers excel so that students can learn and grow. Founded in 2015, we've grown steadily without external funding, giving us the freedom to build for the long term rather than chase short-term wins. Today, we are more than 40 people, with backgrounds spanning teaching, product development, and companies like Spotify, eBay, and Google. Our products are used by teachers in over 100 countries.

We have offices in Danderyd (Stockholm) and Gothenburg. This role is based in Gothenburg, close to the developers who will be building and operating our next‑generation cloud platform.

Our culture is shaped by four values: We are genuine, We play fair, We build for tomorrow, and We dare to grow. These values guide how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we think about long-term impact.

Situated in central Gothenburg near Stenpiren, we have a hybrid work policy, working on-site three days a week.

The role

We are looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer to take hands-on technical ownership of our Google Cloud Platform setup for two SaaS products.

This is an operations‑grounded platform role. You will build and evolve the foundation that our developers rely on: infrastructure as code, secure defaults, good observability, and a pragmatic operational approach that scales as we grow.

We use managed cloud services where they make sense, and you'll help us make pragmatic choices that keep the platform secure, maintainable, and easy to operate. A key part of this role is helping us turn early validation work into a well‑designed, maintainable, and secure platform that developers can operate confidently.

You will collaborate closely with developers and stakeholders across product engineering. While you will be a key internal platform owner, you will also have access to external support when needed.

Key responsibilities

GCP platform ownership

  • Take hands‑on ownership of our GCP platform foundations across our SaaS products
  • Build and maintain infrastructure with Terraform (modules, environments, reviews, CI for infra)
  • Establish a practical baseline for IAM, service accounts, access patterns, and guardrails
  • Shape and maintain networking foundations and connectivity patterns

Reliability, observability, and operability

  • Build dashboards and alerting that make it easy to understand service health and user impact
  • Set up pragmatic logging/metrics practices and retention suitable for production systems
  • Drive operational documentation, runbooks, and incident readiness (without over‑process)

Security and resilience foundations

  • Ensure secrets and sensitive configuration are handled consistently and securely (secrets management, rotation where appropriate, and least-privilege access)
  • Ensure backups exist and are testable through restore exercises
  • Make pragmatic risk trade‑offs clear and documented

Enablement and collaboration

  • Coach and enable developers to operate the platform safely
  • Help coordinate platform work across teams, setting standards and clarifying ownership
  • Explain trade‑offs clearly to both technical and non‑technical colleagues

Who you are

You are an ops‑minded engineer who enjoys building, improving, and owning a platform. You like making systems reliable and understandable, and you prefer to automate and document rather than rely on heroics. You're service‑minded and responsive, but also comfortable pushing back and suggesting better long‑term solutions when needed.

Required

  • Hands‑on experience running production workloads in Google Cloud Platform (or very strong equivalent cloud experience with a clear track record of ramping fast)
  • Strong practical experience with Terraform and infrastructure‑as‑code workflows
  • Experience establishing or operating cloud foundations: IAM, networking, environments, deploy patterns, observability
  • Comfort working close to developers and enabling a shared operational responsibility
  • Ability to troubleshoot incidents and explain root causes and trade‑offs clearly
  • Comfort working in an environment without a rigid, closed development lifecycle
  • A pragmatic, service‑oriented mindset with a bias for maintainability

Nice to have

  • Experience running workloads on Cloud Run
  • Experience with Cloud SQL (or other managed databases) on GCP
  • Experience with security baselines (least privilege, secrets, hardening, vulnerability scanning)
  • Experience with incident practices (postmortems, SLOs, alert hygiene)
  • Experience collaborating with external consultants or partners

Why this role matters at Teachiq

Our cloud platform is central to our ability to scale a reliable, secure service for teachers and students.

This role ensures that:

  • Our GCP setup is reproducible, secure by default, and designed to last
  • Observability and operational readiness are built in — not added as an afterthought
  • Developers have clear patterns and tooling to operate services safely
  • We reduce manual work, long‑term complexity, and key‑person dependency

You'll play a key role in strengthening the backbone of our products — with real impact on reliability, security, and pace.
